So here it is. Finally, a fool-proof way for people to know Jesus Christ. Not only will they know Jesus but they will also know God sent Him. Even further than that, people of the world will know Jesus sent you!
When I professed my faith in Jesus Christ when I was 19 years old I had a best friend. He did everything with me except this one thing. He wouldn't "get saved". He was raised as a Jehovah's witnesses and turned atheist so he wasn't buying into this whole thing quite yet. We were so close as friends that I could be my best self and my worst self with him. You may have one of those friends.
The problem? One day we were having a serious conversation and I asked him why he didn't believe. The answer shocked me.
"Because of you."
"Me? Why me?"
"I've been waiting all this time for you to show me what real Christianity is and you always fail. I see you into it and then out of it. Up and down."
"Well we all sin and that's why we need a Savior--"
"Yeah I know but I never see the love you all claim there is in all this."
This cut me to the heart. I can still hear him saying those words. I was so busy using him as a friend, telling him all my problems, talking to him about the bad stuff that happens behind the scenes when working at a church. I forgot he was still searching. I forgot to be what Christ called me to be.
I remembered the words of Christ.
"A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another." John 13:34-45
Wow. All people will know that we are His disciples if we love one another. Who was Jesus talking to? His disciples.
Later He said something similar before His death.
"Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me."
He prayed for those who believe in Him. He prayed for the saved people of the world to love one another and be as one. The result would be the world believing that God sent Jesus Christ into this world! In other words, Jesus is the Messiah!
So if we become one just as Jesus Christ is one with the Father and love one another, then the world will see that God the Father sent Jesus Christ into this world and Jesus sent us into the world after He left!
We see the same principle in 2 Chronicles 7:14, "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and heal their land."
God always deals with His own people, His children. We are the light by which the world will see Jesus.
It's fool-proof right? But just one problem. How are we supposed to do that? How is it possible for believers to be one just as the Father and the Son are one? There is no perfect answer to this. It's very hard to comprehend. But it must be possible or Jesus would not have prayed it! A great example to look to in order to gain some insight is Acts chapter 2.
"All that believed were together, and had all things common; And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, praising God, and having favour with all people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved."
Did you catch all that? They who believed were together in one accord with a singleness of heart. And then what happened? They had favour with all people, with the outside world! The people looked and listened upon them with favour. They saw the lives believers lived and it prompted them to believe Jesus came from God the Father, died and rose from the grave, ascended into heaven. They believed Jesus sent His disciples to preach the Truth to them. They believed! We know this because the Bible says the Lord added to the church daily from the on.
At ReDiscover Church, we want the wonderful prayer of Jesus to manifest in us as a congregation. We believe as we do, the people around us will know Jesus and many will be added to our church daily.
What happened to my friend? He finally saw me live out my faith and a church where people loved one another. He gave His life to our Lord and savior!
Are you willing to be one with your brother or sister in Christ? Share your lives with them, love them as Christ loved you? It may be a difficult path but one Jesus prayed for you to walk on. The benefit is amazing!
